Commitment Overview

Under the Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) between Northwestern University and the City of Evanston, Northwestern has committed to coordinating with the City to establish an internship program for its students. This initiative provides students with valuable work experience while supporting City services and fostering stronger ties between the university and the community.

Objectives and Goals

  • Provide Internship Opportunities: Develop a structured program that offers Northwestern students hands-on experience in local government, contributing to their academic and career growth.
  • Support City Services: Place students in roles that directly support City operations, enhancing the City's capacity to serve residents.
  • Strengthen Collaboration: Build stronger relationships between Northwestern and the City through active collaboration.

Northwestern's Activities

  • Program Development: Northwestern held several meetings with City staff to create a Work Study program that places students in City roles, meeting both City needs and students' educational goals.
  • Work Study Placement: In 2024, 15 Northwestern Work Study students worked in positions at the City of Evanston, supporting City services and gaining meaningful internship experiences.
