Northwestern University and our construction partners, the Central Street Consortium, share construction updates, project highlights and more.

Construction update from the Central Street Consortium

In response to feedback from the City and our neighbors, we are increasing the frequency of our construction communications. In addition to our monthly construction newsletter, weekly website updates and social media notices, we will now provide a brief weekly progress summary to help keep the community informed.

This week, Ryan Field construction crews continue to make progress on the following elements of the project:

  • The stadium seat anchor and support system is being installed.
  • The student bleacher standing handrail is being installed.
  • On the east side, utility storm trap excavation and trucking work continues. And, utility storm trap structures delivery and installation began at the north end.
  • The first section of liner installation is under way.
  • Interior light gauge metal framing partitions continue throughout the stadium.
  • Concrete masonry work continues on the field level, main concourse, upper concourse and elevator shafts.
  • Exterior framing and sheathing at the upper levels of west side elevation continues. Also, the facade framing system continues on the north side of the stadium working around to the west side.
  • The first pieces of limestone panel are being installed on the southeast side, progressing to the north side.
  • Overhead mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) continues throughout the stadium. Pipe insulation work continues within the stadium. And MEP in-wall rough in continues on all levels.
  • Fire protection overhead work installation continues on the field level.
  • Also ongoing are the metal decking operations for the markets and concessions located on the upper concourse.
  • Ribbon board enclosure and railing system erection continues at mid-bowl.
  • At the loading dock, concrete areas are being prepped for shallow underground utilities and concrete pour sequencing preparation.
  • Southwest canopy roof installation continues. Also, sub-roof installation proceeds.
  • Spray foam insulation and miscellaneous metal installation continues.

Stop by for office hours
A Central Street Consortium team member will be at the will-call office in Welsh-Ryan Arena at 2705 Ashland Ave., each Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. Neighbors are welcome to visit and chat about special programs, construction career opportunities and local businesses. CSC representatives also will be available each Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the CSC Resource Center at 1910 Greenwood Ave.

Ryan Field: A New Vision

The new Ryan Field will create a world-class home for Northwestern University Athletics and a best in the nation football experience for fans, players, and a year-round asset for the community. The project will be privately funded - with no taxpayer financing and significant public benefits.
