Ryan Field: A New Vision
July 11, 2024
Northwestern University and our construction partners, the Central Street Consortium, share construction updates, project highlights and more.

Construction update from the Central Street Consortium

Ryan Field construction crews will be making exciting progress in July. While the earth retention system anchoring continues, installation of sheeting is now complete, resulting in decreased noise and vibrations. The deep foundation operation will be complete by early August. Mass excavation work also continues, with the stadium bowl nearing its permanent field level, helping to prepare the way for pouring concrete foundations.

Additional work hours approved

The city has approved alternate work hours for the first phase of the Northwestern Ryan Field Project. The additional work hours will be used for equipment maintenance and preparation for the next day’s activities. The work conducted during these additional hours is required to comply with the City’s noise ordinance, and the impact is expected to be minimal. The additional work hours allow the project to progress and stay on time. The additional work hours are at the City's discretion and will be continually re-assessed.

The alternate work schedule is as follows:

  • Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. (currently 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
  • Saturday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (currently 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Allowable activities between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays and 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturdays are limited to site maintenance and preparation activities and must comply with City of Evanston noise ordinances.
